The final match of the season for leaders St Clears against Cardigan, second in the table with games still in hand, in a must win match for the home side to not only avenge the 15-10 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, but also to maintain any chance to win the division was played in difficult conditions underfoot, following the recent very wet weather but was at least on a nice day in front of a big crowd.

An early setback for the home side with an injury resulted in the departure after ten minutes of loose head prop and pack leader, Andrew Howells but the very able replacement of Mathew Owens and resulting reshuffle ensured normal service resumed and the battle upfront continued with neither side able to establish any superiority in a very competitive bruising encounter.

Two penalties for offside infringements by the visitors went begging and no movement on the scoreboard at half time correctly reflected the epic battle upfront.

The decisive moment in the game ten minutes into the second half produced the only try of the game from a charge down by centre Michael Georgiau from an attempted clearance kick and a follow up try from open side flanker Jake Iles with the resulting conversion successfully added by full back Geraint Jones.

With their noses in front Saints battened down the hatches, in the face of intense pressure from a very determined Cardigan onslaught and with the exception of a carbon copy charge down which almost resulted in a try for the visitors, they were unable to break down the resolute home side who remained defiant and ran out worthy winners in a very fine example of domestic regional rugby of which both sides should be proud.
