Away to Hendy 21/10/2017

An awful day in a dismal setting with storm ‘Brian’ doing its best to spoil things, started quite well for the visitors, who used the wind at their back to good advantage to put pressure on the home side right from the start.

For the first fifteen minutes Saints looked the more likely to score but in the first visit by Hendy into Saints half, after fifteen minutes, a soft try was conceded from a breakaway.

The visitors were straight back on the offensive however but despite more pressure were unable to find the cutting edge to threaten the home side’s try line and break down their solid defence.

Shortly before half time, in a repeat performance of the first try with another rare visit into the visitor’s half, Saints conceded a second try to produce the half time score of 14 points to nil.

Within minutes of the restart another try for Hendy set the tone for the second half and at 21 points in arrears it was an uphill struggle thereafter. Influential centre Mike Georgiau was introduced after a lengthy lay off through injury, in the hope of turning things around, but he immediately fell foul of the referee who took an instant dislike to his presence and consigned him to the sin bin following a slight disagreement!

Two further tries midway through the half settled any question of a fight back and athough it was a disappointing result, the performance warranted a better return than the 35 points defeat and generally it was an encouraging performance in difficult circumstances.
