Home to St Davids 24/09/2016

With a strong westerly wind at their back St Clears opened proceedings against St Davids at Parc Griffith Jones and almost straight from the kick off in the first attack, flanker Mathew Dance crossed in the corner to register the first try and immediately settle any nerves.

The visitors though, in their customary style, were not fazed by this initial set back and reacted positively taking the game to the home side and pushing them back on their heels with one (narrowly) missed penalty and a lot of pressure to show for their efforts.

In a move which was to set the pattern of play for the rest of the game however, possession was turned over and in the ensuing break away St Clears back division moved swiftly through the gears and outside half Shane Morgan scored under the posts. Liam Price, deputising in the kicking duties for the absent Geraint Jones, added the conversion.

At regular intervals thereafter similar moves featuring the increasingly confident backs produced scores for centre Lee Glanville, Shane Morgan again, wing Jonathan Gosling, scrum half Owen Davies and a third for Shane Morgan, all converted by Liam Price resulting in a half time score of 47 points to nil.

The second half produced no respite for the visitors, despite their best and valiant efforts to stem the flow and flanker Mathew Dance produced a reprise of his first half effort with his second try of the game in the first few minutes. Shane Morgan then added his fourth, only for Mathew, not to be outdone, to score his third, followed within minutes with a fifth for Shane. All converted by Liam Price, with a scoreboard, struggling to cope with unknown levels, registering 75 points.

Left wing Jonathan Gosling finished off another stunning move to record his second try and shortly afterwards Aaron Rees on the other flank scored his first try on his debut. James Davies taking over the kicking duties slotted a good conversion. Shane Morgan then capped off an outstanding performance with his sixth score, Jonathan Gosling registered his third try and James Davies added all the extras to reach the century.

In the dying seconds full back Mathew Lewis produced the try of the game with one of his trademark mazy runs covering the full length of the pitch avoiding countless challenges and tackles to score in the corner, again converted by James Davies to produce the final astonishing score line of 108 points without reply.
